Rules, Consequences, and Rewards
In the classroom I use a color coded discipline/ incentive chart. Every day students will start on green. They can move up or down the chart. If the student succeeds at staying on green or moves up they will receive a sticker on their behavior chart. Once their chart is filled they can choose a prize from the treasure chest. If a student does not stay on green they will not earn a sticker for the day.

THE MORE WE READ, THE BETTER READERS WE BECOME!
Children need to be surrounded by literature of all types. It is important that children learn the benefit and enjoyment of reading at home as well as school. It is important to set aside a specific time and place for reading. This might simply be before bedtime. This can be a relaxing time for parent and child to share a book together.
*Great reading ideas for you and your child:
- Read a favorite book, story or magazine independently.
- Take turns reading with a parent or sibling.
- Together research a favorite topic on the internet.
- Read a great story on one of the many websites devoted to children.
- Write down a recipe for your child's favorite food, then read it together as you make it.
- Have the child read the grocery list to you as you shop.
- Read aloud to a younger sibling, or even a pet.
- Get excitied to check out your local library.
Reading Tips:
- Once is not enough. Encourage your child to reread favorite stories. This helps build fluency, speed, and accuracy.
- Dig deeper! Ask your child questions about what they read. Why do they think something happened? What else might have happened?
-Be patient, correct gently and praise with enthusiasm!
