We want to give you a heads up! For over 10 years now, The Race for Education has been a source of tremendous school spirit as well as a major fundraising activity sponsored by our Home and School Association. (INTERESTED IN MAKING A DONATION? USE THE FORM LINKED HERE!)

This event combines the best of family partnership with community spirit. “The Race” itself (as we call it for short) is a one hour walk-a-thon style event where families are asked to provide names and addresses for 5 or more family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, or community acquaintances who will make a flat donation (pledge) on their behalf. Once we have that information,the HASA Board, Race coordinator, and volunteers take care of the rest. For those veteran families who have participated in the Race for Education in past years, here are some things that will be different this year due to the school closure and business disruptions caused by COVID-19:

• The Race itself will be held “virtually” during a date range we will later announce. This means that families (or at least the students) will agree to conduct and certify that they participate in one hour of continuous activity such as walking, running, or biking. We may add some fun elements such as a
way to share photos of your family doing this together.

• There will be no sticky label sheets to fill out and return. (Hopefully most will find this to be a plus).We will provide access to an online submission form to provide your donor names and addresses.

• Mailing of pledge forms will be handled by volunteers only. Instead of students writing a customized message during school, we will print the pledge cards with a message that you provide during the label submission. This too should come as a relief to families. (We are going to stay traditional with the mailing, however; as it adds a genuine touch for the donor and avoids the risk of emails to donors becoming labeled as junk if we were to attempt an online only campaign.)

• We are reducing the required number of labels from 15 to 10 for students to qualify for the prize drawings. This is to allow families more discretion to omit names they may have submitted in thepast if their contacts are experiencing financial distress. We will also add language to the pledge cards to ensure donors know we are grateful for their prayers and support, even if a financial contributions  is not within their ability this year.
