This is Gaudete Sunday derived from the first word of the Entrance Antiphon at Mass: “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Indeed, the Lord is near!” (Phil.4:4-5).

Advent is half over and Christmas is soon to follow! This Sunday is further set apart by the custom of wearing rose vestments and the lighting of the rose Advent candle.
St. Jude and Sacred Heart of Jesus
Wednesday, December 19, 2018, 7:00 p.m. at St. Jude

This is an excellent opportunity to focus on the true meaning of the season and prepare our hearts for His coming.
Four priests will be available for individual confessions.
Each year the St Vincent de Paul Society of St Joe County assists local needy families at Christmas time. This year they will assist over 400 local families. Our St. Jude Conference is adopting 5 of these families, which include 21 children. We will provide gifts for each of the children and food for the holidays, including a ham and a Martin’s gift certificate. We will need approximately $1,700 in donations to adopt these families.

This coming Easter Vigil we have eight parishioners between Sacred Heart and St. Jude coming into the Catholic Church. During this time of preparation, let us keep these eight parishioners in our prayers. In the back of the church, there are prayer cards for each candidate. Please take one or more home and pray for those who are continuing their journey of faith.

On December 4 we welcomed to our council Michael Hagen from St. Jude. Also in the picture is Jerry Zent from Little Flower Church. Congratulations to Michael and Jerry!
Our Lady of the Road:  Thanks to all who may have found some wonderful bargains on underclothing to be given to the homeless who visit Our Lady of the Road.  Also, for the many cash donations that will be directed for the purpose of buying the basics for the needy coming in to the facility.

Tis the season!  It has already begun when it comes to the needs of the poor, especially with the cold weather on its way.

Today [December 2] begins the season of Advent. At the heart of this season is a call to holiness, a call to look at what needs transforming in our lives and in our world.

May we enter this Holy Season learning God’s ways and walking in God’s paths with humility and an ardent love that will worthily prepare us for Christmas.
